Beach Bums and Crab Legs in Folly Beach, SC (outside Charleston)

I just finished up a nice week long vaca in Folly Beach, SC which is a small island community outside Charleston, SC. My wonderful girlfriend Gianna and I rented a waterfront beach house providing for the ultimate week of relaxation and island exploration.

We made the 10 hour drive south and even witnessed an auto-crash along the way. Strange thing is last time I drove through and around Columbia, SC I saw a live wreck as well so either that is just a freak incident or that area has some really bad drivers etc. After arriving Saturday morning we quickly headed out to the beach and started to enjoy our day of Sun and fun. Later we loaded up on groceries and enjoyed the comforts of our beach front condo.

The next day we were surprised as Charleston had severe storms move into the area at the last minute including a few tornado warnings. I'm not exactly sure where you take cover when in a beach front house on stilts but with the house literally swaying on the wooden pillar supports we waited out the storm and proceeded to continue our evening without too much alarm.

We continued the pattern of sleep, eat breakfast, make margaritas, walk to beach and relax and then eat again over the next few days. The beach scene was very relaxed on Folly with mostly young beach goers present. The beach is also very popular with surfers as Folly has some of the best waves on the east coast.

We headed into Charleston one day to tour the old historic town and do some shopping. We came across a strange old cemetery in the towns center and some of these pics show the unique landscapes we discovered in the heart of Charleston. We also shopped at the city market which is a odd/ball selection of items for sale in flee market style.

We spend one of our days kayaking the salt marshes around Folly Beach and looking for some wildlife. After four hours of kayaking we were pretty sore and hot after the intense Sun and heat of June in South Carolina. We saw some fiddler crabs and pelicans but no dolphins. Either way it was a fun half-day of activity with my girl.
We also ate some awesome seafood meals with my favorite being the Charleston Crab House. Between the two of us we had eaten literally a sea of food. crab, claims, shrimp, fish, scallops the whole works!
We also took a small walk one day to view an old Charleston light house which was off the edge of Folly Beach Island. One thing is for sure and that is Charleston is HOT and HUMID! We also spent evenings on Folly Beach enjoying reggae music on the roof-top bars and relaxing evenings in our beach front week long home.

So an entire week of beach relaxing with my beautiful girlfriend was exactly what I needed. After this much time spent with Gianna I was reminded how lucky I am to have someone like her in my life and look forward to an exciting future together!
